Apple Silicon CrossOver in Testing

CodeWeavers is preparing for the end of Rosetta 2 by releasing an early test version of an Apple Silicon-native CrossOver. This compatibility tool, previously reliant on Rosetta 2 for M-series Macs, is transitioning as Apple phases out Intel Mac support.

Apple notified developers in June 2025 that apps must function without Rosetta 2 before the 2027 macOS update. In response, CodeWeavers announced in June 2026 that CrossOver 27 would exclusively support Apple Silicon. The company has now made a preview of CrossOver 27 available, featuring ARM64 architecture native support.

While this preview allows testing on Apple Silicon Macs, it has known limitations: no D3DMetal, issues with game launchers, and no conversion for existing bottles. These are expected to be resolved before CrossOver 27's planned early 2027 release. CrossOver 26 will remain compatible with Intel Macs, though the upcoming macOS update will not support them.
