Apple has begun warning macOS users that Intel-based Macs will lose Rosetta 2 support after macOS 27. Starting with macOS Tahoe 26.4, a popup appears when launching apps that rely on Rosetta 2, alerting users that these applications will stop working in future macOS versions. This marks the beginning of the end for Intel Mac compatibility.

Apple announced plans to discontinue Intel Mac support back in June 2025 at WWDC, where it debuted macOS Tahoe. The company has been transitioning away from Intel processors since 2020, when it launched the first M1 Mac machines. Three years later, Apple completed its shift to Apple silicon with the Mac Pro, making macOS Tahoe the final macOS version to support Intel hardware.

While Rosetta 2 support ends after macOS 27, Apple says it will continue supporting older gaming titles and software running Intel binaries in Linux VMs beyond that point. The company may also provide future security fixes. With macOS 27 launching in September 2026, Intel Mac users have less than two years before their hardware becomes incompatible with new macOS versions.
