Apple ships iOS 27 developer betas, warns users to wait

Apple rolled out the first developer betas for its 2026 OS suite at WWDC, making iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27 available for download. The initial builds—iOS 27 beta 1 (24A5355q), iPadOS 27 beta 1, macOS 27 beta 1 (26A5353q) and their counterparts—are intended for developers to start testing new APIs before the fall launch.

Because these are developer betas, they lack the polish of public releases. Installing them on a primary iPhone, iPad or Mac can trigger crashes, data corruption, or even hardware‑level glitches. Apple recommends using a spare device, performing full backups, and treating the software as experimental. The editorial team notes that each year they encounter problems ranging from minor UI quirks to serious system failures.

For most users the safest route is to wait for the public beta, which Apple typically releases a few weeks after the developer build. The public preview strips out known bugs and offers a more stable environment for exploring upcoming features. Skipping the developer channel avoids unnecessary risk to daily workflows.

If you are a developer or need to validate an app against the new APIs, install the beta on a secondary machine and keep backups current. Otherwise, hold off until Apple issues the public preview or the final release later this year. Using a spare device ensures your primary hardware remains reliable.
