Apple's recent iPhone event introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo, but left the fate of existing models unclear. Now that the online store has reopened, Apple has confirmed a $100 price increase across its older iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air.

This move follows similar price hikes on iPads and Macs in June 2026, driven by ongoing component shortages. The new pricing means the iPhone 16 starts at $799, the iPhone 17 at $899, the iPhone 17e at $699, and the iPhone Air at $1,099.

Outgoing CEO Tim Cook had warned in June that price increases were unavoidable, stating, "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable. We're doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we've been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable."

While the hikes may disappoint consumers, they reflect broader supply chain pressures affecting the entire tech industry. Apple's decision to adjust prices across its product lines underscores the challenges of maintaining affordability amid rising component costs.
