Apple's App Store review team, combining AI and human oversight, prevented $2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions during 2025, bringing the six-year total to over $11.2 billion. The company reported rejecting more harmful apps than ever before as malicious submissions continue to increase with the rise of AI-assisted app development.

Apple blocked over 2 million potentially harmful app submissions and detected approximately 1.1 billion fraudulent customer account creations. The company also deactivated 40.4 million customer accounts and 193,000 developer accounts related to fraud, while rejecting another 138,000 developer enrollments. Additionally, Apple removed nearly 59,000 apps for bait-and-switch tactics.

Despite these efforts, vulnerabilities persist. A fake cryptowallet that slipped through cost consumers about $9.5 million before being caught, and AI 'nudify' apps emerged as a new problem in 2026. While Apple's system successfully blocks most threats, the cat-and-mouse game with malicious developers continues.
