Vivo X Fold 6 Challenges Samsung With 200MP Camera and 200mm Zoom

Vivo is taking direct aim at Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series with its upcoming X Fold 6 foldable. The company has confirmed key specifications ahead of the phone's China launch later this month, positioning it as a device that prioritizes camera performance without compromising the large-screen experience that defines the form factor.

The camera system centers on a 200MP main camera using the same 1/1.4-inch sensor found in the Vivo X300 Ultra. Vivo continues its ZEISS partnership for premium optics, including an APO Super Telephoto camera with Sony's LYT-602 sensor. Most notably, the phone supports the ZEISS G2 telephoto converter for 200mm-equivalent shooting, though it won't work with the more powerful 400mm version available on the X300 Ultra. A dedicated V3+ imaging chip handles processing duties.

The inner display spans 8.02 inches with Samsung's M14 luminous material, promising up to 5,000 nits peak brightness outdoors while dropping to just 1 nit for nighttime comfort. Power comes from MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor with desktop mode support. Rumors suggest a 7,000mAh battery, though Vivo hasn't confirmed this specification.

Vivo's approach differs from previous foldables that forced consumers to choose between camera quality and screen size. By packing flagship-grade photography into a large-screen device, the X Fold 6 could pressure Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, the China-first release strategy means many global buyers may never officially access these innovations.

The foldable phone is expected to land in China this month, and its availability outside of China could determine how much pressure it puts on rivals like Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup.

Fewer compromises in a foldable ultimately benefit consumers, especially those wanting flagship cameras with the convenience of a larger screen. Features like the 200MP sensor, brighter display, and long-range photography options make the device feel more practical rather than being just flashy.
