Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 Rumored for September Launch with S26 FE

Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag 3 may launch in September alongside the Galaxy S26 FE, according to leaker Roland Quandt on Bluesky. The tracker would arrive nearly three years after the SmartTag 2 debuted in 2023, marking Samsung's first Bluetooth tracker refresh in years. Both devices are expected to be announced at Samsung's September Fan Edition event, though the company has not confirmed the product exists.

The current SmartTag 2 relies on Bluetooth 5.3 and operates exclusively within Samsung's SmartThings Find ecosystem. That network has grown but still trails Apple's Find My network in device density, limiting the tracker's effectiveness for locating lost items outside dense Samsung-user areas. Competing trackers from Apple and Google have advanced their crowdsourced finding capabilities during this gap.

A third-generation model could modernize the hardware with a newer Bluetooth standard and, more critically, expand SmartThings Find's reach and reliability. Samsung's ecosystem lock-in means Galaxy users have few alternatives, but the tracker's utility depends entirely on network participation. Without meaningful improvements to crowdsourced detection, a spec bump alone will not close the gap with rivals.

If the September timeline holds, Samsung faces a choice: deliver a tracker that merely matches current baseline expectations or invest in the network infrastructure that makes item tracking work reliably. The latter determines whether the SmartTag line becomes a genuine competitor or remains an afterthought for Galaxy owners.
