OnePlus targets India’s sub‑₹20k market with new N series

OnePlus is reportedly gearing up to re‑enter India’s sub‑Rs 20,000 segment with a new “N series” that will sit beneath the Nord lineup. Leaks from Smartprix cite industry insider Yogesh Brar, saying the first models could launch as early as July and be priced around Rs 15,000 (≈ $150). The move marks a shift back toward the brand’s original budget‑flagship formula.

The Nord family already occupies the mid‑range tier, leaving OnePlus largely focused on premium flagships in recent years. By targeting the ultra‑budget market, the company will confront entrenched players such as Redmi, POCO, Realme and Vivo, all of which now pack high‑refresh displays and large batteries into sub‑₹20k phones. Success will depend on whether OnePlus can deliver its clean OxygenOS experience at that price point.

If OnePlus can translate its flagship polish—fast charging, smooth UI and timely updates—into a ₹15,000 device, it could carve a niche in a crowded arena where price wars dominate. However, history shows that merely slapping a new badge onto a cheap handset rarely yields lasting brand relevance. The upcoming N series will be the first real test of OnePlus’ budget ambitions.
