Murena unveiled /e/OS 4.0 and 4.1 updates this week, targeting users seeking alternatives to Google's ecosystem. The software promises one-click migration tools that transfer emails, contacts, calendar entries, and Drive files to Murena's privacy-focused platform. Founder and CEO Gaël Duval emphasized the goal of making privacy technology accessible without technical expertise.

The update includes Murena Backup for cloud storage, virtual e-signatures for Workspace accounts, and Murena Meet for video conferencing. These additions strengthen the company's position as a Google alternative for users concerned about data privacy and corporate surveillance. The software rollout begins over the next month across supported devices.

Murena partnered with Gigaset to launch the GS6 and GS6 Pro smartphones running /e/OS. Both models feature a 6.6-inch 120Hz OLED display, 8GB RAM, and 5,300mAh battery. The devices join Murena's existing lineup alongside Fairphone, SHIFT, Teracube, and Volla phones that emphasize repairability and user control.

The GS6 series represents Murena's push to make privacy-respecting smartphones more widely available. While the hardware specifications appear competitive, the real value lies in the integrated /e/OS ecosystem that challenges Google's dominance in mobile services. Success depends on whether mainstream users will adopt an alternative requiring lifestyle changes.
