GoogleMessages Adds '@Mention' Feature to Boost Group Chat Visibility

Google Messages now lets users mention specific friends in group chats using the '@' symbol to ensure their messages get attention. The feature, rolling out this week, allows typing '@Name' to notify individuals directly within the group thread. Users can mention multiple people simultaneously and edit the 'saved name' of recipients if they prefer privacy.

This update addresses chaotic group chats where messages can get lost. Google states RCS 'must be turned on' for all participants to use Mentions. The feature arrives alongside other March updates like a trash folder for deleted messages and built-in live location sharing, which is now actively rolling out.
