Google Settlement Lets Android Users Claim Up to $100

Android users in the U.S. can now file a payout preference as Google moves toward finalizing the $135 million data settlement. Eligible phones must have used cellular data between Nov 12 2017 and the settlement’s closing date. Claimants can pick PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, ACH, or a virtual Mastercard via the new website. The process requires no claim form, only a payment election today.

California residents are excluded, as they face a separate $314 million lawsuit. Payouts depend on the volume of claims and deductions for admin costs, taxes, and legal fees, but each eligible user may receive up to about $100. The settlement administrator will attempt to send payments even if no method is chosen, though failure is possible until settlement approved final.

Final approval is slated for June 23, 2026, after which payments will be issued. The settlement underscores how background data collection can trigger class actions, even when users believe their privacy is protected. For most, the $100 compensation is modest, yet it reminds consumers that their data can be monetized without explicit consent. The rule in data privacy is increasingly enforced worldwide.
