Google adds pet‑specific AI to Nest cameras

Google rolled out a June patch for its Nest ecosystem, adding a new camera AI feature called Pet Memory. By feeding a pet’s name and species through Ask Home, the camera can identify the animal and announce, for example, “Bandit is in the living room.” Pet Memory learns over time, refining alerts. The tweak replaces alerts with pet‑specific notifications, easing owners’ worry when they’re away.

The update also widens Home Brief to additional supported markets, letting users request voice‑driven summaries of live footage and daily activity across the U.S. and new regions. In Germany, Google introduces Gemini for Home, extending its conversational assistant to control media and respond faster to common commands. These expansions aim to deepen voice integration throughout the smart‑home stack.

Earlier this month Google enabled camera events to trigger automations, a feature useful for package deliveries or pest detection. Public preview users can now access Ask Home on the web to review camera history, manage devices, or create new automations. The combined changes reinforce Google’s strategy of making its smart‑home AI more personalized and actionable for everyday users.
