Galaxy S27 Ultra S Pen: No Major Upgrades Coming

Samsung has reportedly scrapped plans for a redesigned S Pen for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, according to reports from South Korean publication EtNews. The company had been exploring a new stylus design that would combine electromagnetic resonance (EMR) and active electrostatic (AES) technologies to create a thinner, battery-free pen. Such a design would have eliminated the need for a built-in battery and digitizer.

EMR technology requires a digitizer layer in the display, which adds thickness, while AES uses an internal electricity-generating module that requires a battery. Samsung had hoped to merge the benefits of both systems to reduce device thickness. However, the company is now reportedly reconsidering its approach entirely, possibly due to conflicts with its MagSafe-like technology.

The news comes after Samsung already removed Bluetooth Air Actions from the S25 and S26 Ultra models due to low usage. With no major S Pen upgrades planned for 2027, the stylus appears to be in a holding pattern as Samsung balances user demand against design constraints.
