Galaxy S26 Ultra telephoto macro tips: Turn off auto lens switching

The Galaxy S26 Ultra offers multiple telephoto lenses for impressive photography, but Samsung's automatic lens switching can ruin your shots. By default, the phone's software switches between four rear cameras based on distance, lighting, and zoom level, often choosing the wrong lens for macro photography. This results in compressed, detail-lacking images that look like they came from a decade-old phone.

To fix this, users need to disable two features: Auto Lens Switching and Focus Enhancer. Auto Lens Switching requires downloading Samsung's Camera Assistant app from the Galaxy Apps store, then toggling the feature off in camera settings. Focus Enhancer, which activates when using 3x zoom for close-up shots, can be disabled by tapping the macro button that appears when you're within a few inches of your subject.

Once these settings are adjusted, you can manually select the 3x or 5x telephoto lens for macro photography. This approach produces images with shallow depth of field, beautiful bokeh, and crisp detail that professional photographers achieve with dedicated cameras. Whether you're shooting food, flowers, pets, or artistic compositions, manual telephoto control transforms your smartphone photography experience.
