Android's March Update: Live Location, Luggage Tracking, and More

Google's March Pixel Drop brings several practical updates to Pixel devices, focusing on everyday usability rather than flashy AI features. The update introduces live location sharing directly within Google Messages, eliminating the need to switch between apps when coordinating meetups or pickups. Users can now share their real-time location in chats with customizable sharing durations.

App discovery gets a boost with short preview videos in the Google Play Store, allowing users to scroll through demos before downloading. These bite-sized clips showcase how apps work across categories like wellness, photography, and shopping. The Phone app also gains custom Calling Cards, letting users personalize their caller ID with photos, fonts, and colors that appear when calling contacts.

Perhaps the most innovative feature is Find Hub's luggage tracking, which creates secure links for tagged bags that can be shared directly with airlines. Over 10 major carriers including Lufthansa Group and Turkish Airlines support this feature, which integrates with global baggage systems. The links expire after seven days and include end-to-end encryption. These updates demonstrate Google's focus on solving real-world problems rather than introducing unnecessary complexity.
