Android 17 Screen Reactions Feature Arrives in QPR1 Beta 4

Google's latest Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 introduces Screen Reactions, a built-in feature that lets users record their screen and selfie camera simultaneously. The tool automatically overlays your face onto screen recordings, streamlining the creation of reaction videos without requiring external editing apps or green screen setups. This directly addresses creator demands for simpler content production workflows.

The feature appeared during The Android Show last month alongside other creator-focused additions like improved Instagram integration and Adobe Premiere support. Screen Reactions integrates natively into Android's screen recorder, appearing as a 'Show selfie camera' option when starting recordings. Users can choose from six background colors including black, purple, and orange to customize their reaction feed's appearance.

However, the feature comes with one notable limitation: it only functions during full-screen recordings. Single-app recording mode doesn't support the selfie camera overlay, restricting its use for app-specific demonstrations. Despite this constraint, the implementation simplifies what previously required multiple apps and manual editing steps.

Beyond Screen Reactions, the beta includes the May 2026 security patch and various stability improvements. The build, numbered CP31.260522.006, is rolling out to Pixel devices enrolled in Google's Android Beta Program. This update signals Android's continued push toward integrated creator tools rather than relying on third-party solutions.
