WhatsApp pushes Liquid Glass redesign into chat view

WhatsApp is extending its long‑running Liquid Glass redesign from the main Chats screen to the in‑chat view. The visual overhaul, first tested last year on the bottom navigation bar, adds a semi‑transparent navigation strip, floating chat bar and subtle blur effects. Early adopters on TestFlight have already seen the new layout, though the feature remains hidden from most users.

Meta’s rollout has been sluggish; WABetaInfo noted in early October that only a fraction of iOS 26 users received the update, with many still on the legacy UI. The company has been pushing the redesign through incremental beta releases, recently revamping the voice‑message player to match the Glass aesthetic. This piecemeal approach suggests the firm is waiting for broader component readiness before a full launch.

For users, the eventual arrival of a fully glass‑styled chat could make conversations feel lighter and more modern, aligning WhatsApp with Apple’s current design language. However, the staggered beta strategy means many will continue seeing the older UI well into 2025. Until Meta synchronizes all UI elements, the Liquid Glass vision remains a preview rather than a universal experience.
