visionOS 27 Adds Icelandic Thórsmörk Environment for Apple Vision Pro

Apple's visionOS 27 introduces a new immersive Environment for Vision Pro users, though it received little spotlight during Monday's WWDC keynote. While Apple highlighted spatial photo features, the Thórsmörk Environment quietly joins the platform's collection of virtual surroundings that replace users' physical space.

The Thórsmörk Environment transports wearers to Iceland's highland region, complete with mountain vistas and northern lights. Apple's Environments already include Yosemite, Mount Hood, the Moon, and last year's Jupiter setting developed with NASA. These digital backdrops work while using apps like Mail and Safari.

What sets Thórsmörk apart is its reactive lighting system. When watching videos with dark appearance enabled, the snow and water surfaces dynamically reflect on-screen colors, creating an immersive feedback loop. A central lake framed by mountains serves as the centerpiece for this atmospheric experience.

This addition reinforces Apple's focus on premium immersive content for its mixed-reality headset. Rather than chasing quantity, Apple continues investing in cinematic-quality environments that leverage Vision Pro's unique display capabilities and justify its premium positioning.
