Apple adds Icelandic Thórsmörk to visionOS 27 beta

Apple released the visionOS 27 beta to Vision Pro developers immediately after its WWDC 2026 keynote, adding a new Environment called Thórsmörk. The digital space recreates an Icelandic highland ridge named for the Norse god Thor, offering day and night cycles, lake‑side scenery, running water, ambient sound, and a simulated Northern Lights display. It runs at native 120 Hz, matching the headset’s display.

Environments transform the user’s physical room into places like Yosemite, Mount Hood, or even the Moon, and they function as backdrops for both app interaction and media playback. In Thórsmörk, video colors bleed into the snow and water, deepening immersion. The feature follows last year’s visionOS 26 Jupiter Environment, which leveraged NASA imagery for realism. Developers can also trigger weather changes to sync with apps.

VisionOS 27 will inherit the same Siri‑driven AI upgrades rolling out to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS 27 Golden Gate, promising more natural voice control across the headset. Apple aims to ship the final version this fall, meaning developers must adapt their content now to leverage the new Icelandic backdrop and AI enhancements.
