T‑Mobile to Drop 1,100 Legacy Plans, Raising Bills for Long‑Term Users

T‑Mobile is set to retire more than 1,100 legacy plans, including long‑standing options like Simple Choice and T‑Mobile One. The shift will automatically move affected customers to the carrier’s current lineup, often at higher rates.

The company says the move is about simplifying its plan mix, not profit. Chief Operating Officer Jon Freier noted that removing outdated billing codes frees resources for a better customer experience.

Many of the plans slated for retirement date back 10 to 15 years, spanning the pre‑and‑post‑Sprint merger era. Subscribers who hold these older packages will receive notices in the coming weeks.

T‑Mobile’s chief marketing officer warned that customers will have no choice in the transition. The change means higher monthly costs for those loyal to older, cheaper packages.
