Samsung Develops Android XR Glasses with Color Display

Samsung is reportedly developing a new pair of smart glasses featuring an in-lens color display, according to sources from The Elec. The device would display text, notifications, icons, and navigation arrows on ultra-small panels of approximately 0.2 inches or smaller. Samsung has tapped Samsung Display to create microdisplays for what appears to be AI-powered smart glasses.

The company faces technical challenges with field of view (FOV) to accommodate the information users see. These glasses would represent a significant upgrade from Samsung's existing Intelligent Eyewear, which focuses on voice commands with Google's Gemini integration and a camera. The new color display would enable more interactive features compared to the current voice-only approach.

Samsung's current Intelligent Eyewear, designed in partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, is expected to launch later this fall. However, these initial models prioritize voice functionality over visual displays. The rumored color display glasses could arrive in the second half of 2027 or early 2028, positioning Samsung to compete with devices like Meta's Ray-Ban Display glasses featuring gesture controls.
