Spotify Adds Toggle to Exclude Kids Music from Recommendations

Spotify announced a new feature allowing parents to exclude kids and family music from their taste profile, preventing children's songs from influencing recommendations and Spotify Wrapped. The toggle, found under Settings > Content and display, applies retroactively so previously played nursery rhymes and animated movie soundtracks won't count toward top songs or artists. Users can still search for and play kids' music, but streams won't shape Discover Weekly, Daily Mix, or Wrapped results.

The author, a parent with a toddler, notes this has been a long-standing blind spot for both Spotify and Apple Music, as their Apple Music Replay currently reflects their child's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse preferences rather than their own. While Apple Music users can use Focus modes to toggle listening history, the author argues most parents lack the mental bandwidth for constant switching. Spotify's solution is praised as overdue and more practical.

The feature addresses a common frustration for parents whose algorithms have been hijacked by repetitive children's content.
