SpeakON Review: AI Dictation Accessory for iPhone Tested

SpeakON is a $129 magnetic accessory that snaps to the iPhone's back and turns speech into text across any app. The device acts as a physical shortcut for dictation, using AI to transcribe and clean up speech on the fly while adapting tone based on preset preferences - useful for everything from casual texts to formal emails.

Setup was straightforward with seamless Bluetooth pairing. The Attune feature lets users choose Casual, Professional, or Formal presets depending on the app being used. Translation works well too - messy Portuguese dictations turned into polished English text. The device supports 11 languages and weighs just 25 grams with a strong magnet and satisfying button click. However, microphones struggle in noisy environments, requiring closer positioning for reliable capture.

Battery life was disappointing, falling short of the claimed 8.5-day standby time. While SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA certifications provide privacy assurances, the company declined to specify which AI models it uses. The $129 hardware is just the start - the Pro plan costs $108 annually for higher word limits. Despite some drawbacks, the device proves voice interactions have more potential than many assume.
