Microsoft rolled out a “Microsoft College Offer” aimed at U.S. college students who buy a qualifying Windows 11 PC. The bundle throws in a year of Microsoft 365 Premium, a year of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and a custom Xbox controller at no extra cost. Eligible makers include Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Surface laptops, and premium support options for the duration of their studies.

Microsoft 365 Premium normally retails for $19.99 a month, while Game Pass Ultimate is $29.99 monthly. Bundling both saves roughly $500 in subscription fees for a year, but only new subscribers qualify; existing users are excluded. The timing mirrors Apple’s $599 MacBook Neo launch and its $100 student discount, suggesting a direct competitive push. The deal also includes free shipping on most participating models.

Students juggling coursework, job hunts and gaming now face a clearer choice between cheap MacBooks and fully stocked Windows machines. While the offer adds tangible value, many campuses already provide free Office alternatives, limiting the 365 perk’s appeal. Nonetheless, the promotion injects over $500 of savings into the back‑to‑school market, nudging price‑sensitive buyers toward Windows. For budget-conscious learners, the bundle could tip the scales.
