macOS 27 adds AI‑driven filename suggestions to Pages and Numbers

Apple is adding subtle AI to its productivity suite in macOS 27. While Siri AI dominates headlines, the OS now scans newly created docs and suggests filenames. Halyna Kubiv of Macworld observed Pages and Numbers auto‑generate titles after a few minutes of content, mirroring similar behavior in Finder for images and text files.

The feature works by running a local model that analyzes document structure and key phrases, then offers one or more plausible names. In a test, a Numbers sheet about user engagement automatically renamed itself “User Engagement Metrics iOS 27,” while a draft Pages review became “iOS 27 Review.” Users can accept a suggestion or type their own title.

By surfacing descriptive filenames without user input, Apple aims to streamline workflow and reduce the mental load of organization. The approach hints at a broader rollout of on‑device AI across macOS, complementing the more visible Siri upgrades. For now, the modest enhancement already saves time for anyone drafting reports or spreadsheets on their Mac.

Analysts note that such incremental AI tricks could become standard as developers tap into Apple’s on‑device intelligence framework. If the filename suggestions prove reliable, other apps may adopt similar helpers, nudging the Mac ecosystem toward more proactive assistance for everyday users and power users alike.
