macOS 26.4 Brings Battery Limits, Safari Tabs, and New Emoji

Apple's macOS 26.4 update brings four significant new features to Mac users. The update introduces a Battery Charge Limit feature, allowing MacBook owners to set their maximum charge level between 80-100%, similar to existing features on iPhone and iPad. This setting, found in System Settings' Battery menu, can help prolong battery lifespan by reducing constant full charging.

Safari users will welcome the return of the Compact Tab Bar option, which Apple removed and then restored after user feedback. The feature maximizes screen space by condensing tabs, particularly useful on smaller laptop displays like the 13-inch MacBook Neo or when using larger monitors like the 27-inch Studio Display XDR.

Freeform users gain exclusive Creator Studio features including access to premium images through the Content Hub, AI-powered image upscaling, crop suggestions, and image generation using OpenAI's models. The update also adds eight new emoji including the Ballet Dancer, Distorted Face (notably similar to the controversial iPad Pro ad), Fight Cloud, Hairy Creature, Landslide, Orca, Trombone, and Treasure Chest.
