Apple's macOS 26.4 update brings three new battery features to Mac users. The update introduces Charge Limit, which lets you set a maximum charge percentage between 80% and 100% to potentially extend battery lifespan. You'll find this setting in System Settings ⇾ Battery under the charging information section.

When enabled, your MacBook charges to within a few percentage points of your chosen limit, then stops until the battery drops 5% below that threshold. The update also adds a Slow Charger indicator that alerts you when your connected charger isn't delivering optimal charging speeds. Apple provides specific wattage recommendations for different Mac models, with the 16-inch MacBook Pro requiring a 140W adapter for best performance.

The third feature integrates with the Shortcuts app, allowing you to automate Charge Limit adjustments. Using the new 'Set Battery Charge Limit' action, you can create shortcuts that change your charging limit based on triggers like time of day or location. This automation capability, recently added to the Mac version of Shortcuts, brings iPhone-like functionality to macOS.
