Google's Gradient Workspace Icons Begin Widespread Rollout

Google has begun rolling out its gradient icon redesign across Workspace applications, marking a significant visual overhaul of the company's productivity suite. The new icons first appeared in the web app launcher found on most Google websites and Chrome's New Tab page, introducing updated designs for Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and other core apps.

The redesign extends to the top-left corners of several Google applications, including Keep and homepages for Docs, Sheets, Slides, Vids, Forms, and Sites. However, favicons and editor logos remain unchanged for now. Google is addressing long-standing criticism of its previous icon set by making colors and shapes more distinct across the suite.

Most notably, the company abandoned its previous mandate requiring all four Google colors in each icon, with Gmail serving as the sole exception. The Workspace page container has been removed from most apps to accommodate larger, more unique icon designs. The rollout has now expanded to include iOS devices alongside the web versions.

This visual refresh represents Google's attempt to modernize its productivity tools while improving usability through clearer visual distinction between applications.
