The Google Health app, which launched alongside the affordable Google Fitbit Air trackers, has significantly expanded its capabilities on iOS. While the app previously offered one-way integration by reading data from Apple Health, it could not write Fitbit data back to the platform.

With the release of Version 5.05, Google Health can now write to Apple Health, allowing exercise records, sleep, vitals, and steps to be shared with other Health Kit-compatible apps. This solves a gap that has existed since 2014, when Fitbit initially declined to support the platform.

In addition to improved syncing, the update introduces Smart Health Links, enabling users to share medical records with healthcare providers or family members. The new Google Health for iOS is available now on the App Store.
