Gentler Streak adds VO₂ max tracking to wellness section

Gentler Streak has added VO₂ max estimate data to its Wellness section, giving users a more comprehensive view of their cardio fitness. The update, now available on the App Store, pulls data from Apple Health to display trends and averages rather than just a single measurement.

VO₂ max measures how efficiently the body uses oxygen during exercise and correlates with reduced risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and premature mortality. The metric is more accurate for runners than walkers, as Gentler Stories notes that walking users might see inflated estimates until they begin running. The company emphasizes trends over individual numbers to provide meaningful insights.

Katarina Lotrič, Gentler Stories Co-founder and CEO, explained the approach: focusing on trends rather than single numbers allows users to identify patterns between their behavior and fitness levels over time. The app remains free on the App Store with in-app purchases for various subscription options.
