Google’s Gemini Spark now lands on macOS as a desktop app, following its preview at I/O 2026. The move lets the 24/7 personal AI agent work with local files and automate desktop workflows. This release is the first of two major summer updates, the second adding a new voice experience.

Users install version 1.80.15.516 to find a new Spark tab in the sidebar, mirroring the web interface. They can select which “Connected” folders Gemini Spark accesses, letting the AI organize, scan, and archive files. The assistant proposes a folder plan, seeks confirmation, and then moves items into a tidy structure.

The desktop app introduces customizable Schedules and Skills through Settings. Users can instruct the app to keep the Mac awake while tasks run, enable alerts when backups fail, and access a Usage Limits page directly from the account menu. These controls help prevent interruptions and keep users informed about resource use.

To use Gemini Spark, customers need a Google AI Ultra subscription, priced at $99 per month. A future update will let users run tasks or access local files on their Mac directly from the web or mobile app, expanding cross‑platform control. The rollout underscores Google’s push to embed AI deeper into everyday workflows.
