Veteran tech journalist David Pogue has unveiled a preview of his upcoming book chronicling Apple's first 50 years. The 600-page volume, titled Apple: The First 50 Years, launches March 10 and is already topping Amazon's History of Technology category despite its release date being weeks away.

Pogue spent two years researching the book, conducting 150 interviews including conversations with Steve Wozniak, John Sculley, Jony Ive, and current Apple executives. The book promises to bust long-held myths while examining both Apple's monumental successes—450 million iPods, 700 million iPads, and 2.2 billion iPhones—and notable failures like the Lisa, Apple III, and MobileMe.

With lavish color illustrations and deep research, Pogue's work arrives as Apple celebrates its 50th anniversary on April 1, 1976. The anniversary has sparked various commemorations, including exhibits at the Computer History Museum and Apple's own celebrations, though details remain scarce beyond Tim Cook's promise that "you better believe" there will be something planned. Pogue will embark on an 11-date press tour across 10 cities following the book's release.
