Apple's Wallet app continues its push to replace physical wallets with digital alternatives, adding support for car keys from major automakers. Toyota and Rivian recently launched the feature, with Porsche and General Motors brands like Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC expected soon.

Toyota began supporting Apple Wallet car keys in February with its 2026 RAV4, while Rivian launched support for its second-generation R1S and R1T models in late December. The rollout comes after Apple announced last June that 13 vehicle brands had pledged support, though implementation has taken longer than anticipated. General Motors notably added its vehicles to Apple's car key backend last fall, with the automaker confirming support is coming for multiple brands.

With several major automakers on Apple's list of upcoming partners, the expansion signals growing momentum for digital car keys. The feature allows iPhone users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles directly from the Wallet app, eliminating the need for physical key fobs. As more brands join the ecosystem, Apple moves closer to its vision of consolidating everyday essentials into a single digital platform.
