Toyota is rolling out Apple Wallet car key support for select 2026 RAV4 trims in the United States, marking the automaker's entry into Apple's digital car key ecosystem. The feature, first reported by MacRumors in December 2025, allows users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicle using an iPhone or Apple Watch with Ultra Wideband technology.

This passive entry functionality works with iPhone 11 or newer models and Apple Watch Series 6 or newer, excluding the iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE 3, and iPhone 16e. Toyota's implementation follows similar offerings from Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. The feature requires a Toyota Remote Connect subscription starting at $15 per month, though new vehicles include a free one-year trial.

Apple maintains a list of compatible vehicles on its website, but it's updated infrequently and currently missing some newer additions. While the rollout appears limited to 2026 RAV4 trims for now, MacRumors notes they haven't confirmed whether other 2026 Toyota models will receive the feature. The subscription requirement has drawn criticism from potential buyers who view it as an unnecessary ongoing cost for what was once a standard vehicle feature.
