Apple to Enable Google Cast in iOS 27 for EU

Apple is developing a system‑level feature that lets users set Google Cast as the default for streaming video, photos, and audio, potentially replacing AirPlay in iOS 27.

The change follows the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which pushes big tech to open up their ecosystems. By allowing third‑party protocols to integrate natively, Apple could let any smart speaker or TV manufacturer offer seamless iOS support without AirPlay.

Only EU customers will see this first, mirroring how Apple plans to roll out third‑party app markets. If adopted, the feature will let travelers and hotel guests stream directly to devices that currently rely on Google Cast.

Apple’s move signals a shift toward broader interoperability, offering consumers more choice while complying with regulatory pressure.
