Apple Maps Bans Ads for Home Services, Crypto

Apple Maps is set to launch ads in the United States and Canada this summer, appearing at the top of search results and in a "Suggested Places" widget. Ahead of the rollout, Apple has detailed its advertising policies, prohibiting certain categories.

While general ad restrictions include violence and drugs, Apple Maps will specifically ban ads for "home services" (plumbing, electrical, etc.), "bail bonds," and "cryptocurrency ATMs." Medical services ads will be reviewed case-by-case. This prohibition of home services is notable, as it's a significant ad category on Google Maps.

The updated "Apple Advertising Services" policy reveals these restrictions, with Apple having first announced plans for ads in March. The groundwork was laid with iOS 16.5. While an official launch date remains unconfirmed, these policy updates suggest an imminent release for Apple Maps ads.
