Apple's latest earnings call revealed MacBook Neo is rapidly displacing Windows and Chromebooks in K-12 education. Close to half of large MacBook Neo purchases by US education institutions last quarter replaced Windows or Chromebook devices, not older Macs.

Major district deployments highlight this shift. Pinellas County Schools in Florida is moving 25,000 students across 18 high schools from Windows to MacBook Neo. Peninsula School District 401 in Washington transitioned 8,000 students from Chromebooks, while Midwest City-Del City School District in Oklahoma purchased over 6,000 Neos to become an all-Apple district.

Author Bradley Chambers, an Apple IT admin since 2009, notes the Neo's pricing remains competitive with Chromebooks and budget Windows laptops despite industry-wide cost increases. The M1 Air previously broke assumptions about education laptops needing to be underpowered; the Neo appears to be its spiritual successor—reliable, manageable at scale, and durable enough to last through a student's K-12 journey.

Chambers predicts the Neo's appeal will expand beyond education to become a default recommendation for knowledge workers who don't need Pro-level performance but require reliability, manageability, and bulk-purchase affordability.
