Base Mac mini out of stock amid AI demand and RAM shortage

Apple’s online store now lists the base Mac mini as “Currently Unavailable.” The entry‑level unit pairs an M4 chip with 16 GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Customers can still order 512 GB models or M4 Pro variants, which ship on schedule. Delivery now runs five months.

Demand for the compact desktop has spiked as developers use it for local AI workloads, which may explain the stockout more than a refresh. Apple is wrestling with a global memory crunch that has driven RAM prices higher and forced higher‑tier Mac mini and Mac Studio SKUs off the shelf globally. Earlier this year Apple pulled the 512 GB Mac Studio from its catalog because of the same shortage. Delivery estimates now list shipping today for stocked configurations.

The company has confirmed M5 and M5 Pro Mac mini variants for 2026, but supply‑chain constraints could delay rollout for Apple customers. Buyers needing a Mac mini must choose an M4 Pro model or higher RAM to avoid delivery windows stretching months. Teams report waiting times of four to five months for configurations above 32 GB RAM.
