Apple Considers Removing MagSafe from Future iPhones, Says Leak

MagSafe, a fan-favorite iPhone feature, may face elimination in upcoming models according to a leak from Weibo’s Instant Digital account. The rumor, shared via 9to5Mac, claims Apple is internally debating whether to phase out MagSafe, citing design constraints and cost concerns. Initially aggressive about MagSafe, Apple even considered it for iPads but scaled back.

Recent whispers suggest hesitation, though no final decision exists. The iPhone 12 launched with MagSafe in 2021, sparking a thriving ecosystem of accessories. When the iPhone 16e omitted MagSafe in 2023, user backlash forced Apple to reintroduce it via the iPhone 17e update.

Critics argue magnets complicate design innovation, particularly with Apple’s rumored “Glasswing” project aiming for a “single sheet of glass” iPhone. Still, abandoning MagSafe seems unlikely given its user dependency.
