Wolcott Blizzard Trap: 24-Hour Snow Crisis at Countryside Apartments

Residents of Countryside Apartments in Wolcott, Connecticut, were trapped in their homes for over 24 hours after a blizzard dumped 16 inches of snow, blocking building entrances. Pamela Mangan, 72, and her husband Keith Adams were among those unable to leave their apartment until Tuesday morning when cleanup crews finally arrived.

Mangan and other residents expressed frustration with SH Management, the Michigan-based property management company that owns the complex. The 17-building complex, housing roughly 136 apartments, saw residents unable to access caregivers, medical support, or even clear their vehicles. Mayor Thomas Dunn visited the site Tuesday, calling the situation "unacceptable" after receiving calls from trapped residents and their families.

The delay sparked concerns about resident safety and emergency access. While the town has limited authority over private property snow removal, Dunn said officials plan to meet with the property owner to address the issue. Residents described feeling "forgotten" and questioned whether their needs were valued, particularly given the complex's elderly population and those requiring regular care.
