A Russian businessman and former politician was found dead in a Moscow apartment Monday morning, just weeks after his name appeared in the Epstein files. Umar Dzhabrailov, 67, was discovered lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his head around 3 a.m., Russian outlet Kommersant reported.

Police found a Luger pistol near his body and are treating the incident as a suspected suicide, though no note was left. Dzhabrailov had recorded several video comments about events in Iran shortly before his death. The former Federation Council senator for the North Caucasus Republic corresponded with Ghislaine Maxwell in emails dating back to May 2001, as revealed in the government files.

Dzhabrailov, who ran for president against Vladimir Putin in 2000 winning only 0.1% of the vote, was also linked to disgraced music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. The Chechen businessman claimed he became friends with Combs, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z at the Cannes Film Festival, knowing nothing about Combs' illicit activities. He once owned the Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel & Business Center in Moscow and operated a company overseeing Russian shopping centers.
