Kathryn Ruemmler appeared before the House Oversight Committee on July 15 to answer questions about her ties to Jeffrey Epstein. She said she had a professional relationship with the financier and was unaware of any ongoing criminal activity. Epstein gave her gifts, named her backup executor in 2014‑2019, and called her when he was arrested in 2019.

During the hearing, Ruemmler was asked whether she believed Virginia Roberts Giuffre was a victim of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. She replied “I don’t know” and described herself as “inherently skeptical” of some of Giuffre’s allegations, claiming they “lacked inherent credibility.” The lawyer noted that Giuffre had previously testified she was abused as a teen by both Epstein and Maxwell and was trafficked to others.

Giuffre, one of Epstein’s main accusers, died by suicide in 2025. Ruemmler’s comments came amid scrutiny of Epstein’s extensive network and the broader conversation about sexual abuse allegations.
