Former top Goldman Sachs lawyer Kathy Ruemmler will testify Wednesday in a closed‑door interview with the House oversight committee about her ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Ruemmler resigned as chief legal officer and general counsel but remains an adviser at Goldman Sachs.

Thousands of emails released by the US Department of Justice show Ruemmler referred to Epstein as “Uncle Jeffrey,” sought his help for a Facebook role, advised him on press strategy, and received lavish gifts including an Hermès bag and plane tickets. The messages were exchanged while she was at Latham & Watkins (2014‑2019) before joining Goldman in 2020.

David Solomon said the bank is “very grateful” for Ruemmler’s assistance in finding a successor. The committee has also interviewed Bill Gates, Leon Black, and former Barclays CEO Jes Staley. Black’s deposition was contentious; he faces subpoenas for NDAs and a September 3 appearance.

Ruemmler’s spokesperson says she “welcomed the opportunity” and denies any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. The Republican‑led panel continues its year‑long probe into the federal handling of Epstein’s case.
