A Tampa man died Tuesday morning when his Dodge 1500 pickup truck collided with a Chevy box truck on northbound I-75 near Bruce B Downs Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The initial crash occurred around 6 a.m. when the pickup driver attempted to overtake the box truck, striking it from behind.

Following the collision, the box truck came to rest on the shoulder while the pickup rolled over multiple times, ejecting the driver into the center lanes. A tractor-trailer traveling northbound then struck the ejected driver, who died at the scene. The crash closed all northbound lanes of I-75 for several hours during the morning commute.

Troopers have reopened the highway, but the incident highlights the dangers of high-speed lane changes on busy interstates. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the victim's name or provided information about injuries to other drivers involved in the chain-reaction crash.
