U.S. Customs and Border Protection has launched an internal investigation into Gregory Bovino, former architect of President Trump's immigration crackdown, over alleged disparaging comments about the Jewish faith. The probe follows reports that Bovino made offensive remarks during a January 12 call about deploying immigration agents in Minneapolis, specifically targeting U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.

Bovino allegedly complained about Rosen's Sabbath observance and sarcastically asked whether "Orthodox criminals also take off on Saturday," according to CBS News. The New York Times reported Bovino used the term "chosen people" disparagingly during the conversation. Rosen delegated the call to a deputy and wasn't directly involved in the exchange.

Bovino, who led the Trump administration's high-profile immigration sweeps across major cities, was removed from his leading role in January after federal officers fatally shot two civilians in Minneapolis. The incidents sparked nationwide demonstrations and criticism of Homeland Security's use-of-force policies. A Minnesota prosecutor has since announced plans to investigate Bovino and other federal officers for misconduct, including an incident where he allegedly threw a smoke canister at protesters.
