Police in British Columbia have identified 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar as the suspect in a deadly shooting that killed eight people, including six children, at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a local residence. The attack left 25 others injured in what authorities describe as one of Canada's deadliest school shootings in recent history.

Among the victims were three 12-year-old female students, two 12- and 13-year-old male students, and an adult female educator aged 39. Two additional victims - an adult female, 39, and an 11-year-old male youth - were found at the suspect's home and identified as his mother and step-brother. Police say the suspect, born male but identifying as female for approximately six years, died from what appears to be a self-inflicted wound.

Authorities revealed they had responded to the suspect's residence multiple times in recent years regarding mental health concerns. Most victims were born in 2012 or 2013, though police say they still don't have a clear motive for the attack. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the small British Columbia community and reignited debates about school safety and mental health resources in Canada.
