Ten people, including the shooter, died after a gunman opened fire at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in remote British Columbia on Tuesday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported six victims inside the school, two at a connected residence, and another person who died en route to hospital. At least two others remain hospitalized with serious injuries, while up to 25 received treatment for non-life-threatening wounds.

The suspected shooter, described as a female in a dress with brown hair, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police confirmed no ongoing threat exists. 'It's hard to know what to say on a night like tonight,' said Premier David Eby, acknowledging the event's rarity in Canada. Tumbler Ridge, a community of roughly 2,400 nestled in the Rocky Mountains, was plunged into shock by the attack at its small school serving 160 students aged 12 to 18.

The town's tiny RCMP detachment responded within two minutes, a fact highlighted by Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger as potentially life-saving. The incident ranks among Canada's deadliest mass casualty events, surpassing the 2020 Nova Scotia rampage and the 1989 Montreal school shooting. Prime Minister Mark Carney postponed planned international engagements following the tragedy.
