Wendy's Taps Ex-COO Robert Wright to Lead Turnaround Effort

Wendy's has appointed Robert Wright as its new chief executive, bringing back a veteran leader to helm the burger chain as it struggles with declining U.S. sales. Wright previously served as Wendy's COO for more than four years before leaving to run Potbelly. He will also join the company's board of directors.

Wright takes over at a challenging moment for the fast-food chain, which has faced pressure from shifting consumer habits and intensifying competition in the quick-service restaurant space. His most recent role was leading sandwich chain Potbelly, where he oversaw its approximately $566 million sale to convenience-store operator RaceTrac last year.

The appointment signals Wendy's bet that an industry veteran with turnaround experience can revive sales growth. Wright has also held leadership positions at Charleys Philly Steaks and Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, giving him a broad resume in the burger and sandwich segments.
