Minnesota health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak potentially linked to jalapeño peppers served at Mexican-style restaurants, with Chipotle being a primary focus. The Minnesota Department of Health has identified 110 cases of salmonella javiana associated with the outbreak.

Of the 84 individuals interviewed who experienced symptoms, 89% reported dining at Chipotle between mid-June and last month. Those who did not eat at Chipotle had patronized other Mexican-style eateries. Chipotle has been cooperating with the investigation, providing records, and removing the suspected jalapeños from its locations.

While the state has no ongoing concerns with Chipotle, the investigation acknowledges that contaminated food may have been served at other establishments. The focus remains on identifying the source of contamination to prevent further transmission.
