Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled prepared foods containing jalapeños after the CDC and FDA investigated a salmonella outbreak that sickened 345 people across 27 states.

The company stopped sourcing from a farmer in Sinaloa identified as the possible source; Coast Citrus Distributors was also recalling fresh peppers. Restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba had already ceased using the peppers and notified customers.

Despite the recall, Taylor Farms reports no illnesses linked to the recalled items. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, especially in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

The firm had faced heightened scrutiny after a cyclospora outbreak tied to lettuce from Central Mexico. It suspended iceberg lettuce sourcing from that region and commissioned a safety review while remaining under federal investigation.
